Computer

10th Sept 2020

Today I'm joining Grammys grid's Wednesday Writing Prompt ,

to write a  story in 98 words to include the word, computer.

Here's my effort. Hope you enjoy it

                                           New Beginnings

Jan stretches, turns off her computer and heads for bed.

Is that the time, 1.30 am, were we chatting all that time?

She undresses by the light of the streetlamp.

She never pulls the curtains, enjoying the night sky and the morning sun

dancing through the windows.

 She lays awake, thinking.

If it wasn’t for Covid 19 forcing her to work from home, she’d never have thought of running poetry Zoom meetings.

It’d become quite lucrative, but more importantly, she met David. Tomorrow I’ll meet him in real life.

I hope… She shivers.  I’ve been alone too long.

Dark

10th Jan 2019

Just a few words to match my mood this morning:

There is so much dark

Dark in the sky,
Dark in my mind
Dark in my soul
Dark in through the windows, through all windows

Dark back through years
Dark behind all the tears
Dark whilst standing in the sun
Dark whilst having so much fun

Where is the light to see by
Where is the light to show the way
Where is the light to reveal the joy
Hidden deep and locked away

He is the light, he helps us see
He is the light, he shows the way
He is the light , he reveals the joy
He can no longer be hidden away

Move dear soul so you can see
Move dear heart to find the way
Move dear child, reveal the joy
Move, hide no more, come into the day

Story in Six Sentences / Light

19th Nov 2016

I'm going with a prompt today . It's to write a story in six sentences. The other constraint is to use the word light in each sentence . First time for everything. Here goes:

Light
That morning we woke in the early hours, had a light breakfast of a cereal bar and a few gulps of water  packed our tent away and set off in the dark.
Walking by the light of our torch to avoid tripping on the uneven terrain we hoped to get the eighteen miles completed before the heat of the day made it impossible to go on.
After an hour or so, with  only the sound of our movement breaking the silence, we passed through olive groves and vineyards and spotted a mysterious light coming from the old hermitage of Cuevas .
We thought it was a trick of the eyes until we realised that the cloud cover was thinning and the light was coning from the early morning moon  hitting something, maybe metallic, in the ancient church.
Wanting a short rest and  to have a look around we lifted our rucksacks off our backs and immediately felt light and free.
We set off again, putting our torch away because the soft yellow light of dawn was creeping up over  horizon.

The Void

   2nd Nov

Am praying for mum and dad today , the Feast of All Souls.  I've put this on the post "The Void" as I felt it was a different way of looking at the same theme

One day we will meet again and one another understand,
With all the pain and suffering gone, reach for each other's hand.
Our joy will be that then we'll know why we acted the way we did,
Our knowing will be complete - nothing at all will be hid.

The love we had between us so hard to show sometimes ,
Will be evident -   no need for shady rhymes.
We'll spend our time getting to know the people we are, really,
Our deepest hopes and longings will be there for us to see.

I wait for that day when we with a happy heart,
And it won't matter how long we've been apart,
For you will be waiting on the other side for me
And when I get there, there you will be

OK, so it's the second day of the challenge and I already feel that the way is too hard. But, the easy road isn't always the most beneficial. If you want to see the poems of all the other participants in the poem a day for October challenge go to poetsonthepage.blogspot.com .

The Void

Look at you taking the broad path, soft grass underfoot,
Lightness in your step,
Warmed by your friend from her place in the Heavens,
Accompanied by many along this pleasant way
Breathing ,with you, the fresh ,wholesome air.
But...
But in your soul, a void,
A void of hopelessness and misery,
A void of emptiness and wasted dreams
Crushed, buried.
Turn...
Turn and see the other path, the one less trodden, narrow, steep.
Stones falter your step, the wind, the rain, slow your progress.
Weakness pulls on your strong shoulders.
Yet...
Yet, on this path, in your soul,
Light, fullness of joy, a joy that bursts forth ,
And you smile,
You smile.

Dawn

10th June

OK so it's been a while since I've posted anything here on my blog. I have no excuses, except to say that I haven't felt the least bit inspired. My mind has been in a bit of a foggy place where thinking at all has been an effort that I've tried to avoid .. Just feels like hard work... Well, just to point out that I am still there , but there is also a little bit of me that can't help wanting to talk to you all. And to find out what is going on with all of my readers. By the way, thanks for all your lovely comments. They really do keep my spirits up. Knowing that someone - anyone - has enjoyed and appreciated some words of mine gives me such encouragement.

So, with it being June,  the weather being so good, the sun coming up so early, I was reminded of  a time in the past when we went out to meet the dawn.....

Dawn

Before the other campers stir,
In the anonymous womb of darkness,
The world is at rest
Before the forest wakes
The "almost light" of just before dawn
Says goodbye to the night.

Tent sides damp with hope of  the new day,
You breathe in the fresh promise of morning,
And slowly, anticipating, open your eyes ,
Turn -  see their little bodies- still, quiet,
Curled up in sleeping bags
Just moments before awakening.

As the birds begin their greeting,
In the half light
You crawl around, finding
Trousers, trainers jumpers- falling
Into one another, rubbing your eyes,
Whispering, whispering shared secrets.

The zip - noisy - breaks into
The mystery of  dawn,
And out you step onto the dewy grass
And creep, staying close together, into the forest,
The dark being coaxed away
By the light of the new day.

The universe is unveiled before you
With only the sound of your breathing
All around you is coming to life
And then the little one nudges you
Excitedly - points a little way ahead
And you all stop, thrilled.

There, grazing in the early morn
A herd of deer.
You keep as still as a mountain ,
And stare, mouths wide open,
For ages, until, spooked, they run off,
You return to the tent
For hot chocolate and toast
