No Chicken

1st April
Now it begins- napowrimo.
Day 1

No Chicken

You sit,
Hunched over,
on the cold pavement,
a colourful sleeping bag
pulled up under your chin,
It seems futile against
this crisp March morning,

Strategically,
carefully,  you've chosen
your place,
next to the steps
that lead
to the the doors
of the St Benedict's  Church.

You reach out to me,
 hands gnarled, greasy,
 gritted with the road,
Your eyes search me,
 hopefully,
find their way to a  corner
of my soul

"Are you hungry?
Can I get you a sandwich?"
"Yes, thanks..."
Is that an Albanian accent?
"What kind would you like?"
I leave  you that dignity,
won't presume to choose.

"Chicken please..."
"No chicken left,
what about
 ham and cheese?"
"That's fine, Thank you"
polite, refined,
what brought you here?

You take my hand.
I wish I could take you home.
I find myself sitting beside you,
we talk for a bit,
I leave
to go back  to my,
centrally heated house

Dark

10th Jan 2019

Just a few words to match my mood this morning:

There is so much dark

Dark in the sky,
Dark in my mind
Dark in my soul
Dark in through the windows, through all windows

Dark back through years
Dark behind all the tears
Dark whilst standing in the sun
Dark whilst having so much fun

Where is the light to see by
Where is the light to show the way
Where is the light to reveal the joy
Hidden deep and locked away

He is the light, he helps us see
He is the light, he shows the way
He is the light , he reveals the joy
He can no longer be hidden away

Move dear soul so you can see
Move dear heart to find the way
Move dear child, reveal the joy
Move, hide no more, come into the day

The Void

   2nd Nov

Am praying for mum and dad today , the Feast of All Souls.  I've put this on the post "The Void" as I felt it was a different way of looking at the same theme

One day we will meet again and one another understand,
With all the pain and suffering gone, reach for each other's hand.
Our joy will be that then we'll know why we acted the way we did,
Our knowing will be complete - nothing at all will be hid.

The love we had between us so hard to show sometimes ,
Will be evident -   no need for shady rhymes.
We'll spend our time getting to know the people we are, really,
Our deepest hopes and longings will be there for us to see.

I wait for that day when we with a happy heart,
And it won't matter how long we've been apart,
For you will be waiting on the other side for me
And when I get there, there you will be

OK, so it's the second day of the challenge and I already feel that the way is too hard. But, the easy road isn't always the most beneficial. If you want to see the poems of all the other participants in the poem a day for October challenge go to poetsonthepage.blogspot.com .

The Void

Look at you taking the broad path, soft grass underfoot,
Lightness in your step,
Warmed by your friend from her place in the Heavens,
Accompanied by many along this pleasant way
Breathing ,with you, the fresh ,wholesome air.
But...
But in your soul, a void,
A void of hopelessness and misery,
A void of emptiness and wasted dreams
Crushed, buried.
Turn...
Turn and see the other path, the one less trodden, narrow, steep.
Stones falter your step, the wind, the rain, slow your progress.
Weakness pulls on your strong shoulders.
Yet...
Yet, on this path, in your soul,
Light, fullness of joy, a joy that bursts forth ,
And you smile,
You smile.
