Stuff from Morning Pages.

30th April 2020

Bits from my journal 28th April

The days run into each other a bit at the moment,
not all exactly alike,   but samey nevertheless.
I didn't sleep much last night.
Possibly it was because of an insect bite
that I got on my knee
when we went to the woods yesterday.
Got through my thick jeans, of so.
Or maybe it was the chicken.
Anyways, it was quite a good day in all,
starting with The Writer's Hour
first thing in the  morning.

I love it
Something creative occurs
with a little nudge
And nobody's going to
critique or judge.
While I find I'm in
A scene, a moment, lost
I find an hour gone by
at no extra cost.
It make me focus
on the words before me
If there's any distraction
I don't tend  to see.
I've written more words
in just three days
Than in a whole month
trying other ways.
So, I'll turn up tomorrow
And the next day too
for as long as it's offered
I'll know what to do.
I might even get finished
my memoir this year
A definite possibility
I'll let out a cheer.

Later that morning, not that I felt like it, I went with my hubs and daughter to get Dog food for our little puppy. He'd been making do for a while as we were not able to get out because of the virus.
Observing social distancing my daughter waited her turn to go into Pets at Home, while hubby walked puppy round the car park. I sat in the car, with the sun warming my shoulders, reading.
Bliss...
Another daughter lives near, so we went to wave at the grandchildren.
For about twenty minutes we chatted to the six of them and their Dad.
It lifted my spirits, made my day,
and I think, by the looks on their faces,
by the stories they shared, eagerly,
 that they liked it too.
One day, someday,
I'll be able to hug them again,
sit with them on my lap again,
nuzzle my face into their hair
and smell the coconut shampoo again
 I can't wait...
Mum was doing an online  course and didn't even know we'd called.

We left their house and headed for the woods,
me still on cloud nine, all senses heightened, we chatted, we laughed about our few minutes of pure joy with the kids.

To get to the woods, we amble through a field,
two butterflies, like brown leaves dance a tango
fly, this way, that way,
in the distance a farmhouse, white behind green trees,
love to live there,
and now peace,
no hum of traffic,
no hum of people,
other sounds creep upon us,
insects, birds,
we stop to listen
our own breath,
the rustle of leaves.
The woody aroma fills our lungs.
I count four huge oak trees
their branches - a picture
of strength- comforting.
Bluebell, Forest, England, Spring

Silver birches, ashes, alders,
hawthorn bushes
and in the clearings,
bluebells spread like
picnic blankets
with shafts of light like
slabs of lemon drizzle cake,
dotted with small clusters
of delicate, pink woodland
flowers at the edge
of the paths .

the branches
one, a baby and the other the parent
 feeding it.

A little grey squirrel
scurries round the
trunk of a thick oak.
I walk, I ponder
I think, I pray
I'm so lucky.
Yes, Lord, it's been a good day.
Thank you.

No Chicken

1st April
Now it begins- napowrimo.
Day 1

No Chicken

You sit,
Hunched over,
on the cold pavement,
a colourful sleeping bag
pulled up under your chin,
It seems futile against
this crisp March morning,

Strategically,
carefully,  you've chosen
your place,
next to the steps
that lead
to the the doors
of the St Benedict's  Church.

You reach out to me,
 hands gnarled, greasy,
 gritted with the road,
Your eyes search me,
 hopefully,
find their way to a  corner
of my soul

"Are you hungry?
Can I get you a sandwich?"
"Yes, thanks..."
Is that an Albanian accent?
"What kind would you like?"
I leave  you that dignity,
won't presume to choose.

"Chicken please..."
"No chicken left,
what about
 ham and cheese?"
"That's fine, Thank you"
polite, refined,
what brought you here?

You take my hand.
I wish I could take you home.
I find myself sitting beside you,
we talk for a bit,
I leave
to go back  to my,
centrally heated house

Octpowrimo 19, 20, 21

25th Oct 2017

I've no idea how to respond to the prompt for the 19th Oct . So I'm going to try another acrostic.
The prompt is:

Fox or Foxy

Feeling a little heated, red .fur getting redder
One little fox wonders how he can use his cunning
X raying the seen with his eyes he finds he has to use

Other means today. He devises
Rougher ways to find his

Food. He gives it all he's got
Obstinate till the last and then,
X marks the spot
Yes, he will get to eat tonight.

More about remembering than desires, here's a poem I wrote a while ago and now post for the prompt for 20th Oct:

Desires and Remembering

Am I Being Clear

Am I being clear?
Things have changed around here,
Life was more peaceful, less stressful,
The three of us, Pottering about, Knew where we were.
Then you came to stay!
Didn’t realise I was so controlling,

And after a large bowl of porridge and along with four slices of toast!
The budget doesn’t run to it!
Am I being clear?
Then we were told that when we were out,
The two of you , made dinner,
Used all the chicken breasts, and had a whole pizza,
Without a second thought - Too much at one time,
Am I being clear?
And the washing machine – it goes on at night-we save on the ‘ectric ,
And can you not be in the shower for more than twenty minutes?
Am I being clear?

The prompt for the 21st Oct is Nothing Remains the Same.  And I've got a little song this time:

Enjoying the Dance

Embracing, Gliding likes swans on a lake,
We took to the floor, a couple to make.
Quick stepping through galaxies, up with the stars,
Fox trotting on Saturn, Jupiter and Mars.

And they said we could never be
Happy together, you and me.
But we’re still here, proving them wrong,
Enjoying the dance and singing our song,
Enjoying the dance and singing our song.

At times we twirled and danced too fast,
Feet hardly touching the floor, such a blast.
Our feet would be bleeding our body’s sore,
But we carried on across the dance floor.

And they said we could never be
Happy together, you and me.
But we’re still here proving them wrong,
Enjoying the dance and singing our song,
Enjoying the dance and singing our song.

Our dance has slowed but we still glide,
Gently moving, side by side,
Our adventure will come to an end one day,
But we’ll move on, we know the way.
Chorus

A Tantalising Aroma

                                                                                      6th October 2016

We have started a monthly lunch club in our parish . A hard working team giving time to help the community grow. We had a great day on our trial shift - although exhausting , it was also hugely satisfying. As my brain is in a bit of a spin now I found that all I felt I could write about was that.

A Tantalising Aroma

Ooo, that's a tantalising aroma...
A cheery, red face peered around the door.
He was early -  we were late
We had arrived at nine and
Scrubbed and
Rubbed and
Disinfected every corner of the kitchen
Had to be done. That was before
Any food preparation
So, we were late, not very, but still...
Door of oven slammed shut at 11.40 am
Chicken pies on target for 12.30.
He came at 11.50, expecting a meal at
12.00 midday .
We looked after him, gave him coffee,
Then others came to join him.
The work went on.
Dicing carrots, shredding cabbage , boiling potatoes..
And for the dessert - sponge to make
To cover the apples that came
Free.
All sixteen diners eating by 12.40
Enough food to feed forty -
The amount there'll be next week
Words of appreciation and much
Chatting together -
Our practice run went well...
We learnt a lot....
Made a list for the replay
Yes, , with mind and hall cleared
 I sat back and appreciated
That comment
And agreed
Not just a tantalising aroma but
A delicious repast to boot.
