Day 13 - Hugging a tree

13th Oct 2019

Hugging a tree?

We're on Day 13 of the OctPoWriMo challenge. I'm afraid the prompt, "Hugging a Tree" didn't do anything for me today.
So, what to post instead? OK, here goes: I have tried a Loop poem today .

Exploring poetry in all its forms.

The Wood of the Tree.

Who, I wonder cut down the tree
from where it lived
lived in harmony with the others
until that day
day and night it was kept in some
place waiting
waiting for the time it was needed
its task to perform
perform it did the most perverse deed
of all time
time was getting near, they brought
out the man
man above all men, he did not speak
he took it
it was the cross that Jesus embraced
for us, with love
love brought him to his knees three
times in fell
fell in pain and sorrow with the weight
of our sins
sins that we now feel our own deep
sorrow for
for as surely as we are sinners we nailed
him to that tree.

Affair

A comment of mine that went in a magazine

Happy Monday! Here's a dilemma for you - remember to comment as much as you can to get £25!

A few years ago, my parents divorced after my mum found out my Dad was having an affair with another woman. He left and moved in with her and they’ve recently had a baby. Mum has always had trouble coming to terms with what happened and resents him so much. They've since had a baby and she hasn't been coping well. My sister and I, who are both in our thirties, still see him. However, Mum has told us how she feels betrayed that we have a relationship with him. We know he shouldn’t have cheated as it's caused so much heartache but he's still our Dad. I feel really torn, as I've always been on Mum's side. Should we stop seeing him?

I can feel your pain and the dilemma you are in. It's not an easy situation .  And also, I really understand how your mum is still so hurt by the betrayal and feel for her too. I have no idea how I would feel if that happened to me ( I've been married for forty seven years) or to my own parents who were married for sixty three years before they died. How would us children have dealt with that? It's a big thing. Society today brushes it off so easily.
Your poor mum is suffering so much. It was an horrendous thing to have happened.
But, you are right, he is still your dad and you and your sister should have a relationship with him, of that there is no doubt. It is absolutely  not a question of taking sides, you can be sure of that. And whilst you say you've always been on mum's side, which is understandable, it's time to let go of the idea that you stand with one or the other. You have two parents, a mother and a father, be loyal to them both. Love them both, equally if you can. You may find that you get a bit cross with dad because he caused so much heartache, but at the end of the day, he is your dad and we are all flawed in some way.
Try to explain to mum that you don't love her any the less and by loving your dad you are putting her teaching of love into practice. Explain that you only have one father and one mother and whatever they are like you will love them. Maybe you could help your dear mum to decide not to allow your father to hurt her anymore. As it is, she was hurt by the betrayal and is still hurting by continuing to live it. Hold her close, but don't stop seeing your dad.
With a lot of love and affection for both of them you will bring happiness to yourself as well as to them . And if she is willing, keep your sister in the loop too. Build on the good.

Oct 1 2019 Dark Night of the Soul

1st Oct 2019

Octpowrimo starts again and I want to try and have a little something for every day of the month.
If you would like to join in go just google  Octpowrimo 2019 and you'll find out more.
It's good fun and keeps you writing.

Day one...

Dark Night of the Soul

It seemed I had
Everything I wanted,
Husband, children, friends, job
Enough monetarily - although
We never really think we have
Enough
I couldn't honestly say
I lacked anything
Yet,
Yet, I was lonely
But I couldn't say
There was something missing
I didn't feel me
Didn't feel whole
But I couldn't say
In the depths of my very being
There was a heavy emptiness.
Everything was black
But I couldn't say
There was just this
Dark hole
That held
A pain
A pain I couldn't explain.

Move Your Body Move Your Words

18th Oct 2017

Reading at the prompt for day 11 left me cold. I thought, right, where can I go with this? I was completely stumped and my little grey cells were snoozing away and not in the least bit interested in the problem.
But I thought I must write something as some words are better than no words. Aren't they?

Move Your Body Move your Words

I nearly missed the train this evening.

With a sea of commuters I ran for the 6.0 o'clock
train
A seat tonight was out of the question, that fact was
plain
Bodies hustled, toes trod on, shoved, not admitting to
pain
Damp smell from clothes polluting the air, all got wet in the
rain
The seated make no eye contact, arriving early was their
gain
They ignore the pregnant, the old, the infirm, eyes closed in the
main
Some are on  phones, others read books and in their seats they
remain

I am not young and with my poorly hip could do with a
rest
So when a lot get off at the next stop I feel I'm now well
blest
I take a seat in first class  in  a comfy chair like a
guest
Let's see how long I can keep my place, it's like a little
test
No one comes to remove me -  home, that's always the
best

Tokaido Road

26th May 2020

Five Years Ago.

26th May 2015

Hello all my lovely followers.
Just taking a rest from all the packing and cleaning and sorting and dumping and worrying that I've been manically steeped in this last week or so. Soon we are to move, days now.
In the meantime,  let me tell you about a wonderful evening we had last Saturday at the Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury.
We went along with friends to a modern day opera, yes, you read that right, an opera. Not normally my thing - all those soprano voices singing in a language I don't understand.
But this was nothing like that. We were prepared for it by having a presentation evening at Beach Creative to tell us about this unique performance. The inspiration for the production was The Tokaido Road in Japan, or rather a set of prints by Hiroshige, an artist who did fifty three wood block paintings of the stations on the road.
Nancy Gaffield, a poet became inspired by the prints she discovered when on a visit to Japan and wrote poems in response to the pictures. ( Tokaido Road by Nancy Gaffield, in case you're interested.)
Putting these two elements together and joining with musicians and other creative people an opera was written.
What a wonderful experience it was, especially as we knew some of the history.
Add to that the meeting of friends and a glass of wine .... well you get the idea...
This is my response to it:

 Tokaido Road

We step into the picture,
From Nihonbashi we accompany Hiro,
Along Tokaido Road.
A road from our dreams.
We cross the bridge.,
Slowly, serenely, absorbed in the scene.
Enchanted, enraptured, we listen to music,
as it  resonates, reverberates,
In our subconscious  recesses,
a reeling rhythm of life.
Music brings joy and pain
Freedom and confinement,
Throwing us onto the way of the road.
Images present themselves,
Without being asked,
A waterfall, windy roads,
Animals  scurrying, birds in flight.
Kites held by anonymous hands,
Escape.
Trees sway gently over the banks of,
The river.
The river that divides,
With fingers that spread across the plain,
That takes to itself,
That has it's story to tell.

We,  in monotonous pilgrimage,
Put one foot in front of another,
Encounter steep slopes,
And mountain pines.
At the summit,
cherry blossom fills aching lungs,
In the heat of the day.
As travelers we continue
On the way,
With Hiro,
But long for release.
The path , at times impossible,
Against us,
Wind , rain, umbrellas taking on new form.
We continue with Hiro,
To the end.
And in the end the mystery,
We are not the same,
We, like Hiro,
Are changed.
