Taste of Satisfaction, Held, No Roses

28th Oct 2017

Good morning. There  is certainly an autumnal chill in the air this morning, with chimneys puffing smoke heavenward.
I went to a writing for well being workshop yesterday. It's the first time in ages that I have written with other people and I found it immensely liberating . You writers who follow my blog if you don't already meet up with fellow pen smiths, then I would highly recommend that  to do.  The creative possibilities are increased tremendously. Now , on to catching up with octpowrimo. Here's three . I'll be back later to actually write today's. Enjoy...

Day 25

Taste of Satisfaction

To love what is mortal is no easy thing
Autumn turns green leaves golden then brown
From soft and stretchy to brittle and broken
All things change , make their unavoidable departure,
So, how to love that mortal thing,
And in the process keep possession of the I that is me,
Is it in the giving up or the giving in that the I is diminished,
Or is it otherwise -
Is it that the sacrifice makes the I into the strongest
Mountain, majestic , magnificent
And is there any sacrifice at all if all is joy when given
Yes, to love what is mortal is no easy thing

Day 26

Held

Eternal
only now,  holding everything in being
you are to my I am
my soul held beneath your wings
held against your softness
held as present
held everlasting

Day 27

No Roses

Stepping into the old house into a cold wall of empty
climbing the rickety stairs slowly, each  creak magnified
peeping round the bedroom door, daring to breathe -quietly
looking at her there in the bed as if asleep
smelling the strong scent of roses  filling the room
smiling and thinking no flowers have been here.

April 5th Walk By The Beach

April 5th 2017

Walk By The Beach

Two boys, about eight maybe, kicking up the pebbles,
A dog paddling  in shimmering water, black head stretching
Towards a red ball thrown out to entice.

Gulls squawking madly, fighting over luncheon remains,
Fly away suddenly when a lone teenager gives them the chase
Firing stones at them - not at all nice

And we walk on, hand in hand along  the beach,
On towards Reculver,  the sun warming our cheeks,
Evening threatening to come too soon.

We share stories as we go and talk with more ease,
Sorting the differences that will always be there,
In the sky the sun  joined by the moon.

The rhythm in our steps mirrored by the shushing of waves
Keeping time unconsciously with the gentle ebb and flow
Our bodies one with  nature around us

Moving further out of the town , two figures travelling alone
Scent of sweet lavender  -  an old aunt comes to mind,
Quiet reveals winged insects,  unknown to us.

Red, Abandonment, Favourite Scent, Sea Shells, Upside Down

30th October 2016

Day 25: Enjoyed writing these words : 5 days for the price of one - nearly there with the challenge - only two more to do

Red

Evening comes sooner with clocks brought forward,
Bringing us home early - leaving the book signing
Carrying our treasure with authors scrawl inside cover.
Curtains close on autumnal sky , fiery red in the dusk,
Passionate with warm promises to look forward to .
But as we huddle together and step into a new adventure
Tomorrow dwells  as a hangman's  noose - waiting .
Not for us the joy of waking to a happy day,
Not for us the red sky's delight,
Not for us.
But for this short time we can be somewhere else
Push those pictures to another room in the mind
Forget for a while the scary memories as we make others.

Day 26:

Abandonment

The abandonment of her rich life brought some difficulties,
She didn't find it easy to stick to a budget,
Coffees out with friends were a thing of the past
Some days she dreamt of going home  to her parents
Like the prodigal son who thought better of his life.
But she had little Harry - he needed his dad
And she loved them both .
Maybe one day they would all be accepted.

Day 27:

Favourite Scent

She had been buried for over a year
I had hardly given her a thought for weeks
But that morning while hoovering her room,
Now used by the twins,
She came for a while in pictures of times past
I sat in the chair and closed my eyes
We were in her kitchen - making pastry,
Then in the garden collecting flowers
And off to the cinema to enjoy a film together
I open my eyes and the air is full of a sweet aroma,
Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden was always her favourite scent

Day28:

Sea Shells

Pebbles stretch to left and right as far as you can see
Waves roll in with their lunar rhythm
You walk at the edge - a tightrope of of precision
Looking down - must not touch the water
Keeping sharp just on the knife, controlling,
Until-
You see-
Sea shells...
Sea shells clumped together in a pile on the pebbles
First you stop,
Then you look,
Then you sit
And cry

Day 29:

Upside Down

You thought you had everything under control,
All seemed well in your world
And you celebrated your birthday
With friends and cake and presents galore.
You didn't know it then but
That was the day
Your life was turned upside down
